Greenlight’s Surfboard Blanks feature the use of bamboo instead of hardwoods or plastics for
stringers in an effort to provide the ultimate in
environmentally friendly materials.
Laminate Bamboo Stringers
Our natural bamboo stringers are manufactured by laminating strips of bamboo together creating a very strong and powerfully flexible surfboard.
Greenlight intelligently orients the bamboo stringer lamination horizontally along the surfboard's longitudinal centerline, creating an extremely strong yet powerfully flexible stringer providing more drive through a bottom turn or cutback.
A laminated stringer also minimizes irregularities such as knots and grain patterns that run in various directions. These irregularities are often found in a single piece of wood, and they can affect the strength and durability of a surfboard. Therefore, a laminated stringer is more uniform in density and grain pattern, and more lively in terms of performance.
Ecohesive Bonding
Greenlight furthers it’s environmental responsibility by gluing the natural bamboo stringer to the EPS blank with a special “Ecohesive”.
The Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) content of the Ecohesive is approximately 18 times less than the acceptable limit for adhesives set by the EPA and contains no ozone depleting chemicals. This unique adhesive is not only strong, but it is also flexible and will not inhibit the power generated by the laminated bamboo stringer.
Strength
Relating to surfboard performance, bamboo is a brilliant material choice because it has a long straight fiber composition, providing an exceptional strength to weight ratio and dimensional stability.
Also, bamboo has a high mineral content making it more durable than many hardwoods.
